To take just one metric, vertebrate life has declined by roughly 60 percent since the 1970s. The causal factors are only worsening despite electric cars and whatnot, so unless you're looking forward to leaving for Mars from a dead Earth, we'll have to degrow to ensure life remains decent here. I know which outcome I prefer, but of course many people are committed to pretending we live in Star Trek!
